Madeira is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Everyone comes to Madeira, like summertime and beaches, but if you are interested in history or culture experience something new. It’s not just about seeing the famous cities of Lisbon and Funchal. There is so much more to do here in Madeira.
Here are some suggestions of things to do in Madeira.
1. Mountain hike
Madeira has more than 20 volcanoes because it is a part of the Atlantic Ocean plate. The highest peak is called Pico Ruivo (2352 meters). You can see the wonderful view of this island. You can also see the beautiful architecture at the top of the mountain. Very cool.
2. Whale-watching cruise
There are many colonies of whales on this island, all year round. They come to this island because it is the best place for them to have babies and grow. You can see the whale from your boat.
3. Beach in Funchal
The beaches on Madeira are very nice. You can go to one of the many beaches around Funchal like Praia Verde do Norte, and Praia da Pedra, (all about 15 minutes away from each other). If you want to do it at night you can go to some of these beaches. The atmosphere is different at the night. There are some bars around to have a drink and listen to music.
4. Night club
There are two very nice nightclubs in Madeira, one is ONI CLUB and the other is Babalu Club. They are the coolest places to go with lots of new people to meet and much fun! The music style is mostly House, R’n’B music. You can also go to a bar or two around Funchal. It is full of people!
5. Shopping
The shopping in Madeira is at a very high level and the prices are pretty good. You can go to Funchal and you will find many nice shops like Zara, Wallentinus, C&A, Mango and more. Also, you can go to another island called Porto Santo (30min by ferry) and get some souvenirs like wine, ceramics or so.

Madeira is a very nice place for everyone and you can have a lot of fun on this island. This is is the most unique European destination and I think everyone should come here once to experience this place. If you don’t travel much, this is a great place for you.
